First Listen Review: James Blackshaw – “Summoning Suns”

James-Blackshaw

Genre: Lo-Fi Folk – Classical Guitar

The Good: The band sounds kind of like a lo-fi folk version of Broken Social Scene. The reference to the late 90s band is more in the production and vocal stylings rather than the music itself. The album starts out rather poppy on the first song and then moves into some interesting territory with beautiful classical guitar work placed with drums. There is even a song with Japanese lyrics. The final two songs are interesting in that they are purely classical guitar.

The Bad: The classical work at the end may not be to everyone’s taste. It is rather long without much variation taking place.

Would I Listen Again: Maybe
